Business in Birmingham
Birmingham is the largest city economy outside London and the most mixed on this map. Professional and financial services fill Colmore Row and the core, with several national firms running substantial second offices here; the Jewellery Quarter holds a dense concentration of small specialist manufacturers; and the manufacturing and logistics belt runs out through Aston, Tyseley and towards the motorway box. Five universities and a very young population feed all of it. The practical consequence is scale and formality — more multi-site estates, more procurement processes, and more businesses with somebody whose actual job is IT.

Birmingham — common questions
We run several Birmingham sites with an internal IT team. Where do you fit?
Usually as the connectivity and telephony layer to a standard your team sets, rather than the whole stack. We take the carrier relationships and the circuit management off their plate and deal with them directly instead of through an account manager relaying messages. Where a business has no IT function we do considerably more; where it has a good one we deliberately do less.
Our Jewellery Quarter workshop is small but the stock is valuable. What about security?
Two different things worth separating. Network security — firewalls, segmentation, keeping a camera system off the same network as the office — is what we do. Physical security and alarm monitoring is not us, but the alarm line usually is: anything dialling out over an analogue line needs moving before January 2027, and in a business holding valuable stock that is not a job to leave late.

The 2027 switch-off affects Birmingham too. Every analogue and ISDN line in the UK stops working in January 2027. If you are not sure what that means for your lines, the detail is worth ten minutes.
