Construction Telecoms Solutions

Temporary site connectivity, rugged devices and reliable communications for construction and infrastructure projects.

Talk to us about construction

A construction programme runs to a fixed date, so connectivity has to arrive with the first cabin rather than whenever a line order completes. Sites are remote, temporary and hard on equipment. A site office that cannot get online is a site office full of people waiting — drawings not issued, valuations not submitted, deliveries not booked — and that time comes out of the programme.

So the connection is designed to be temporary in the useful sense. Mobile data covers the ground before there is any fixed line, a permanent circuit takes over once one is available, and the same kit spans both, so nothing has to be reconfigured on site when the fixed line lands. It is built to be moved as well as installed: when a job reaches handover, the hardware comes off site and goes out to the next one.

Around it sits what the site runs on day to day: calls between the cabins and head office, handsets that can handle site work, a network kept apart from the one subcontractors and visitors use, and connected devices watching plant, materials and access out of hours. Downtime on site costs money, so all of it is specified for site conditions rather than borrowed from an office fit-out. SCG Solutions is part of SCG, the Southern Communications Group.

How we help construction

GSM Backup

Automatic failover connectivity that keeps your site online even when primary connections drop.

Business Mobiles

Rugged, reliable mobile solutions built for site workers and project managers on the move.

IoT Solutions

Smart sensors and connected devices for site monitoring, security and equipment tracking.

Rapid Site Deployment

A new site needs connectivity on day one, not in six weeks. A pre-built, ruggedised kit gets a site online immediately and moves to the next one when the job finishes.

  • Scalable connectivity combining mobile, xDSL and Ethernet — no reconfiguration when you switch
  • Ruggedised flight case built for site conditions
  • External antenna augmenting mobile data across multiple carriers
  • Integrated Wi-Fi with separate SSIDs for staff, guests and visitors
  • Next-generation firewall with proactive management and monitoring
  • Traffic shaping to prioritise business-critical applications
  • GPS tracking and geofencing
  • Managed rotation from site to site
  • Secure hand-off to third-party providers and existing corporate networks
  • Simplified billing with cost centres and dedicated account management

Joint Ventures

A JV has to work as one organisation without merging the parent companies’ networks. That is a segmentation and access problem before it is a telecoms one.

  • User and group network segmentation, with authentication into both the JV and parent company networks
  • Perimeter network security combined with local authentication by group, user or device
  • Private cloud hosting for business applications, or secure on-net access to third-party platforms
  • Desktop-as-a-Service on a scalable month-by-month cost model
  • Unified communications across landline and mobile
  • Bespoke traffic shaping with user and group reporting
  • Long-term data storage and archiving
  • Tailored billing — predictable cost modelling, cost centre reconciliation and flexible terms
  • Professional services: solution design, consultancy and on-site engineers
  • Dedicated project, service and account management

Construction — Common Questions

How quickly can you get a new site connected?

A rapid deployment kit is pre-built and ships ready to run, combining mobile, xDSL and Ethernet so it works wherever the site is without reconfiguration. That avoids waiting on a fixed line to be installed before anyone can work.

What happens to the kit when a project ends?

It rotates to the next site. The hardware is managed as a pool rather than written off per project, which is why the connectivity options are built to switch without being reconfigured.

Can you support a joint venture without merging our networks?

Yes — that is the normal requirement. Users and groups are segmented so people can authenticate into both the JV and their parent company network, with access controlled by group, user or device.

Where we cover construction

Areas where construction is part of the local economy and a director already covers it. Each page names who you would be dealing with.

Let's talk about your construction setup

Tell us where the site is, when the cabins land and how long the programme runs, and we will work out what gets it online from day one.
