IP Voice Lines for Your Existing PBX

SIP trunking delivers voice calls over your internet connection, replacing traditional ISDN and analogue lines. If you have an existing on-premise PBX, SIP trunks let you keep your current system while benefiting from lower call costs, greater flexibility and built-in resilience.

With the UK's PSTN network switching off in January 2027, now is the time to move your voice services to IP. We'll manage the transition seamlessly — no disruption to your business, no loss of numbers.

The practical case for SIP over replacing the whole system is that a PBX bought five years ago is usually nowhere near the end of its useful life. Swapping the lines underneath it costs a fraction of replacing it, keeps the handsets, the programming and the training your staff already have, and buys several more years before the platform itself has to be revisited. Where the PBX genuinely is at the end of its life we would say so and point at cloud telephony instead, but that is a judgement about the age of your system rather than a rule.

The other difference people notice quickly is that channels are a number rather than a physical thing. Where an ISDN30 meant an engineer visit to add capacity, SIP channels change on request, so a business with a seasonal peak can carry thirty channels in November and ten in February. That flexibility only matters if your call volume actually moves; for a steady operation the saving is in the line rental and the call rates rather than in flexing anything.

Why Choose SIP Trunking?

Lower Costs

Significant savings on line rental and call charges compared to traditional ISDN. Pay only for the channels you need.

Built-in Resilience

Automatic failover and disaster recovery options keep your calls flowing even during outages — reroute to mobiles or alternative sites instantly.

Flexibility

Scale channels up or down as your business needs change. Add new numbers or redirect existing DDIs without engineering visits.

SIP Trunking — Common Questions

When is the UK PSTN switch-off?

The UK PSTN and ISDN network is scheduled to switch off in January 2027, and stop sell is already in force everywhere — so copper lines cannot be bought, moved or modified now, well before the lines themselves stop. Any business still running analogue or ISDN needs to move to IP voice before then, and the ones that leave it late get fewer options rather than more.

Will SIP work with my existing phone system?

SIP trunks work with most IP-enabled PBX systems, and keeping the system you already own is usually the whole point of choosing SIP. If yours is not IP-enabled, a gateway sometimes bridges it and sometimes the honest answer is that the system has reached the end of its life — we will tell you which before you commit to anything rather than after.

Can I keep my phone numbers?

Yes. Full number porting is included across 01, 02, 03 and 08 ranges, so nothing on your signage, vehicles, stationery or listings becomes wrong. The number belongs to you rather than to your current supplier, which is the part most businesses are surprised by — believing otherwise is the commonest reason firms stay somewhere they are unhappy.

How many SIP channels do I need?

One channel carries one concurrent call, so the number you need is driven by how many calls you take at once, not by how many staff you have. Channels can be added or removed without installing physical lines, so you can start close and adjust.

What stops us being hit by call fraud?

Voicesafe. Toll fraud works by getting into a phone system out of hours and dialling premium or international numbers, and the bill lands on you. Voicesafe watches call patterns and caps the damage, and it sits across SCG voice services rather than being a bolt-on you have to remember to buy.

Which businesses get the most out of SIP trunking?

Anyone with an IP-capable PBX they want to keep, and particularly businesses with seasonal call peaks, multiple sites or fast headcount growth, because channels flex up and down without an engineer visit. It suits a business that invested in a system recently far better than one whose PBX is already near the end of its life, where replacing it outright is the better answer.
