Charity & Not-for-Profit Telecoms
Communications that stretch a restricted budget across small sites, volunteers and people working out in the community.
Talk to us about charity & not-for-profitCharities buy technology under a scrutiny most businesses never face. Every pound spent on phones and connectivity is a pound not spent on the cause, and it may have to be justified to trustees, funders or the Charity Commission. At the same time the shape of the organisation is awkward: several small sites rather than one big one, a mix of paid staff and volunteers, people working from home, and outreach workers who are rarely at a desk at all.
Cloud telephony fits that shape better than a phone system in a cupboard. Evonex puts every site and every home worker on one numbering plan with no hardware to maintain at each location, and Microsoft Teams calling does the same for organisations already on Microsoft 365 — often on charity pricing they already hold. Business mobiles on EE, O2 or Vodafone with pooled data suit outreach and community work, where a fixed line is no use, and mobile insurance covers the roles where losing a handset stops the work.
Behind that, the group’s buying power does real work on cost: SCG has been supplying UK organisations since 1965, has more than 450 staff and operates as a Tier 2 ISP, so connectivity and mobile are bought at a scale a single charity could not reach alone. Connectivity runs from FTTC and FTTP broadband to Ethernet leased lines with GSM backup where a site cannot afford to be offline. Cyber security, tested backups and disaster recovery protect donor and beneficiary data, which for safeguarding reasons is often more sensitive than commercial data. Support is UK-based and 24/7, and you get a named local director rather than a call queue.
How we help charity & not-for-profit
No hardware at every site
Evonex cloud telephony puts small sites and home workers on one numbering plan without a system to buy and maintain at each location.
Built for work away from a desk
Business mobiles on EE, O2 or Vodafone with pooled data for outreach and community teams, and insurance on the roles that cannot lose a handset.
Group buying power
Bought at the scale of a group operating since 1965 with 450-plus staff and its own Tier 2 network, not at the scale of one charity.
Safeguarding-grade data care
Cyber security, tested backups and disaster recovery for donor and beneficiary records that are often more sensitive than commercial data.

Charity & Not-for-Profit — Common Questions
We have a very tight budget. Where does the money actually go furthest?
Usually in three places: moving off ageing on-premise phone systems so there is nothing to maintain at each site, pooling mobile data across the organisation rather than buying per-handset allowances, and consolidating several small contracts onto one. A review often finds savings before anything new is bought — send us a recent bill and we can give an early indication.
Most of our people are volunteers or work from home. Does that work?
It suits cloud telephony well. Everyone sits on the same numbering plan wherever they are, calls can be answered from a laptop or a mobile app, and there is no hardware at any location to look after. Volunteers can be added and removed as they come and go without an engineer visit.
How do we protect beneficiary and safeguarding data properly?
The same controls that protect commercial data, applied with more care because the consequences of a breach are worse. MFA on every account, email scanning, separate admin accounts, backups that are actually tested by restoring them, and a documented recovery plan. None of that is expensive, and most of it is configuration rather than purchase.
Do we get the same support as a large commercial customer?
Yes. The 24/7 UK-based support and the named local director are the same regardless of what you spend. That is the point of being part of a group with 450-plus staff — the scale sits behind every account rather than being reserved for the biggest ones.
